Okay. For the past few months, I've been writing about Aboriginal issues, thoughts and some ideologies. I've taken a token of responsibility as a young, Aboriginal male and hopefully, lived up to what my grandfathers may have wanted. So, as a young, Aboriginal male, what do I have to say about my white girlfriend?

I mean, I preach about keeping in touch with our heritage, our ways, yet I live with a girl who is white. What do I have to say?

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) is taking the federal government to court in an effort to protect the treaty right to hunt.

FSIN First Vice Chief Greg Ahenakew made the announcement June 7, saying the FSIN planned to challenge Bill C-68, the Firearms Act, which requires gun owners to register their weapons.

Nekaneet First Nation will be holding a Traditional Healing and Medicine Gathering from Aug. 27 to 30. This will be the second such gathering held in the historic Thunder Hills, near Cypress Hills in southwest Saskatchewan.

Nekaneet First Nation Chief Larry Oakes is expecting many First Nations people from across Canada to attend.

"I welcome all those who want to come here to celebrate and take part in this gathering," he said.

Highway renamed for Louis Riel

Travellers along Highway 11 between Regina and Prince Albert will see new signage along the route, following the official renaming of the 364 km stretch of roadway.

The highway was officially renamed the Louis Riel Trail at a ceremony held June 20 at the Duck Lake Regional Interpretive Centre.

Don Wilkins is chair of the Louis Riel Trail Association, a conglomeration of groups and individuals that since the spring of 1999 have been working to have the Highway renamed in honor the 19th century Metis leader.
