Oki. What's happening here with Old Man Winter? Maybe he has passed by us or is going to visit us in the New Year. Some people say this strange weather is because the weather patterns are changing. If that's going to happen, then what about powwow summer? Is it going to be powwow spring?

Family members and the Metis community at large in Alberta are mourning the loss of one of their most esteemed and cherished Elders. On Nov. 12, Mrs. Delia Gray, 82, passed away. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1975 and her best friend, Teri House, who passed away earlier this year.

Metis Week proves busy for participants

The week of Nov. 13 through 20th - Metis Week - was a beehive of activity that featured several open houses, a conference, the Louis Riel commemoration and a number of cultural festivities.

The week's theme was Honoring the Metis Child and was kicked off with a trade show sponsored by the Aboriginal Business and Professional Association and a mini-symposium on Metis land and resource rights at the University of Alberta.

One of the hottest topics in Aboriginal country in the last little while attracted close to 150 delegates representing a varied cross-section of Aboriginal organizations, services and youth who gathered at Edmonton's Ramada Inn on March 18 for an all-day workshop.

The subject of interest to everyone was none other than the recently announced Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centres Initiatives.
