On a cool, cloudy Monday morning on Nov. 15, hundreds of people attended the 11th annual Join the Circle Rally and Walk Sober in Edmonton.
The event that began at 10 a.m. with a rally at city hall and ended with a walk to the Sacred Heart Church of the First Nations was a way for people to come together and celebrate an addictions-free lifestyle.

One of the Aboriginal community's artists of note is Maxine Noel, a Santee Oglala Sioux originally from the Birdtail Reserve in southwestern Manitoba. There she grew up in an Indian boarding school, one of only two Indian children to do their entire schooling at that institution. Outside the school, she learned a lot from her grandmother who was determined that she study classic piano. However, such was not to be. Oh no, not for Noel.

Oki. What's happening here with Old Man Winter? Maybe he has passed by us or is going to visit us in the New Year. Some people say this strange weather is because the weather patterns are changing. If that's going to happen, then what about powwow summer? Is it going to be powwow spring?
It has been one heck of year, you know, this last year of the 1900s. I wanted to know what would be the event or the person of this millennium that made a difference? To me, it would be Christopher Columbus. Well, in Indian country.
