The 10-team men's fastball tournament was one of the highlights of the Goodfish Lake Celebration Days held July 4 to 6.

'The Boys', a "United Nations" collection of players from communities throughout northeastern Alberta led by Manitoba-based pitching ace Joe Basaraba, split first place with the Vector team from Elk Point. The top prize of $5,000 was split between the teams when the final game of the double knockout tournament could not be played because of darkness.

Timed event specialist Robert Bruised Head of Standoff, was the big winner in just about all the major timed events at the Lazy B70 Memorial Rodeo at the Many Fingers Ranch on June 27-29.

Bruised Head, who also works the pro circuit in the CPRA, had a sizzling-hot loop, winning the calf roping event with a nine second time. He then teamed up with brother Steve and took top spot with a 5.5 seconds time in the team roping event.

High Prairie to host Native boxers on the 'Warpath'

Let's get ready to rumble!

The High Prairie Sports Palace is ready to host the Boxing Alberta "On the Warpath" fight night on Aug. 28.

There will be 10 bouts on the undercard, featuring Native professional and amateur boxers Edmonton's Crystal "Brave Heart" Arcand; the Slave Lake Slugger, Kevin Beaver; Donovan "Lee" Horse from Regina; Rocky Whitford from the Kikino Metis Settlement; and "Cree Boy" Bobby Roy from Edmonton.
