Timed event specialist Robert Bruised Head of Standoff, was the big winner in just about all the major timed events at the Lazy B70 Memorial Rodeo at the Many Fingers Ranch on June 27-29.
Bruised Head, who also works the pro circuit in the CPRA, had a sizzling-hot loop, winning the calf roping event with a nine second time. He then teamed up with brother Steve and took top spot with a 5.5 seconds time in the team roping event.
His 5.3 seconds run in steer wrestling was good enough for second place finish behind cousin Wright Bruised Head who brought the horns to the dirt in just 4.9 seconds to win the event and take home $914.
Robert's total winning came to whopping $2,424. Not bad for less than 20 seconds of work. He won the all-round title and received a beautiful rope can from Rufus Goodstriker, the all-round winner at last year's Lazy B70 event.
Bruised Head also received a Pendleton Blanket from Joyce Goodstriker and a painted skeleton steer head from the Many Fingers family.
The Montana duo of Don Wilson and Mike Loring placed second in the team roping with a time of six seconds flat and a return of $855 each.
Tom Bingham of Cardston won the bronc riding with a score of 72 points on a horse called Grey Dawn to win $450. Chris Goodstriker of Standoff won $372 for a 71 point, second place effort.
The bareback event went to Cody Jackson of Browning, Montana. He earned a 74 point ride and took home $504.
Two Standoff cowboys, Kelvin Fox and Marcel Bruised Head, split for second and third place. Each produced 73 point rides and split the $630 purse.
Taking the bull by the horns, literally, local cowboy Kevin Scout marked points to win the bull riding and snatched the $549 top spot.
Cleatus Big Throat edged Ross Scout by one point to win the boys steer riding event with a 73 and 70 point ride. The junior riders won $301 and $226, respectively.
In the barrel racing events, Babb, Montana's Traci Vaile and Standoff's Traci Creighton split for first and second, each stopping the clocks at 17.27 seconds and splitting $848.
The Browning Montana cowgirls were one-two in the junior event. Brittany Bird won it with a time of 17.30 seconds. She took home $262. Dana Whitford pocketed $196 for second place at 17.36 seconds.
Courtney Small, a Crow cowgirl now hanging her hat in Browning, won the ladies breakaway roping at 8 second flat winning $204. Barb Regon of Babb, Montana was second at 12.6 seconds and scooped $153.
Jim Potts of Brocket and local veteran Pete Bruised Head won the century team roping with a time of 11.4 seconds.
The memorial rodeo was held in Memory of Frank Many Fingers who passed away last year and was one of the top all around cowboys the Blood Reserve has ever produced.
Rodeo producer Floyd Many Fingers and events coordinator Gerry Many Fingers deserve a feather in their hats for a job well done.
Buckles and an assortment of rodeo gear were presented to all winners
