Aboriginal youth from across Canada will be gathering in Edmonton next month for the Dreamcatcher Aboriginal Youth Conference, to be held Oct. 13 to 15 at Grant MacEwan Community College's City Centre campus.

The conference, an annual event since 1994, is aimed at Aboriginal teens aged 13 to 17. There are also workshops aimed at the adults who are required to accompany them.

The theme of this year's Dreamcatcher conference is "Body, Mind and Spirit", with participants being given the opportunity to "explore the wholeness of the self."

The conference, hosted by the Child and Youth Care program at Grant MacEwan Community College, will feature workshops dealing with physical, emotional, social and spiritual development. Workshop topics range from teaching traditional crafts, dances, languages, games and storytelling, to teen parenting, to career planning, to learning how to use the internet.

The event will also feature a small traditional powwow, a youth talent show, and a Much Music video youth dance, with the talent show and dance to be held at the Mayfield Inn.

For every five youths registering for the conference, there must be one adult over 21 years present to take responsibility for them during the conference.
