Xerox scholarships copped

Two of the five Xerox Canada Aboriginal Scholarships for 1996 were awarded to Albertans, the company announced on Dec. 19. Rob Crow, a status Indian who lives with his wife and three young children in Lethbridge, began studying management in the Business Enterprises and Self-Governing Systems of Inuit, Metis and Aboriginal Peoples certificate program at the University of Lethbridge in 1993, and moved on to a degree program in 1995. Crow said that he's determined not to be left behind in the information age. Lanne Relland of Edmonton, a young Metis who completed computing courses in Grades 10 through 12 with marks of 100 per cent, and who helped teach the computing courses in Grades 11 and 12, was named the other winner. Relland was accepted into the faculty of engineering at the University of Alberta in the fall. The $3,000 scholarships are part of an Aboriginal Education Support Program launched by Xerox Canada in 1994, and are open to full-time students in post-secondary information technology courses. The scholarships attracted 113 applications in 1996. (RJH)
