Liberal leader Justin Trudeau joined Fort McMurray-Athabasca candidate Kyle Harrietha, who kicked off his campaign mid-May. Harrietha is a resident of Fort McMurray and serves as the general manager of Fort McMurray Métis 1935. Also seeking the seat, which was vacated when Brian Jean retired, are David Yurdiga for the Conservatives, who is a councillor in the County of Athabasca, and Lori McDaniel, a Suncor employee, for the NDP. “This is an important campaign, and we are reaching out to Canadians and asking for their ideas, their hope, and their hard work in the days ahead,” said Trudeau in a prepared statement. Trudeau was in Lac La Biche, Wabasca, and Fort McMurray. Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that four by-elections would be held June 30, including two in Alberta. The other Alberta by-election will be held in the riding of Macleod in the south.
