Aboriginal children in foster care among issues discussed by ministers

February 5, 2016. Social services ministers from the provinces and territories and the federal minister conclude their two-day meeting in Edmonton on Friday. Federal Minister of Children, Families and Social Development Jean-Yves Duclos said the issue of Aboriginal children in foster care would be on the agenda. Ministers gathered to discuss key social issues, strengthening collaborative relationships and ways to move forward on common goals. Alberta Human Services Minister Irfan Sabir co-chaired the meeting along with Duclos.

Deceased man found on highway identified

February 4, 2016. Steven Weaselhead has been identified as the deceased man found on Highway 842. The Gleichen RCMP are investigating the hit and run which is believed to have occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. An autopsy was conducted by the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office but RCMP are not releasing the cause of death at this time. The Weaselhead family is appealing to the person responsible to come forward. The Gleichen RCMP are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen Weaselhead the evening of Jan. 31 or early morning on Feb. 1.
