Seeking birth family

Dear Editor:

My name is Robin MacLean. I was adopted in 1973. I have been looking for my birth family since 1994.

My birth name is Darlene Louise Monias; date of birth is Dec. 26, 1972; birth place is Medicine Hat, Alberta.

I was apprehended on Feb. 23, 1973 by Child Welfare in Medicine Hat.

According to a letter written to Indian Affairs, the Band #779 Saddlelake/Athabasca Heart Lake was billed for my care while I was a temporary ward. I have phoned the band office of Saddle Lake and Heart Lake for further information. Unfortunately, they have been unable to help in finding my birth family.

According to a letter received from Indian Affairs ". . . your birth mother acquired Indian status in 1961 when she married a registered Indian." Other information I have received from my Child Welfare file is that I had two older brothers and one older sister.
