Some students at the U of A are in for a very special treat tonight, in more ways than one.
For the evening, the Sawridge Inn will host a celebration of the gracious gifts contributed to support the Faculty of Native Studies at the university.
There will be a feast prepared by Top Chef and Aboriginal chef, Rich Francis.
Chef Francis is excited about the night and showing how delicious Indigenous food can be with a little twist.
“I’m going to be partnering with the U of A and the Sawridge Inn in Edmonton and we are going to be doing a 5-course tasting for the university. It’s going to help the students with some extra food… I know it’s tough being a student. It just gives me another chance to showcase modern Indigenous cuisine to people who haven't tried it yet. For me, it’s more of an emotional statement than anything and I’m just happy that people are responding well to me being here.”
Along with Chef Francis, PhD candidate Richard Oster will talk about Aboriginal health and the tie with diabetes and culture… also, Cree-Metis artist Aaron Paquette has donated a piece of his artwork for silent auction.
Not surprisingly, the event is completely sold out.
