Six students from Omchaminahos Elementary School in Saddle Lake First Nation will be coming to Edmonton to take part in the Edmonton Regional Heritage School Fair May 13.
The students have worked together on a project for this fifth annual fair, and will be presenting it during the competition, which will take place in the Alberta Legislative Assembly pedway starting at 9 a.m. This is the first time students from a Native school have participated.
More than 400 school children from Edmonton and surrounding area will be taking part in the event, which will feature at least 200 heritage projects celebrating Canadian history.
"Heritage Fair is like a science fair, only the projects are done on topics from Canadian history, geography or heritage," explained Lois Gluck, co-chair of this year's heritage fair.
There will be about 80 regional heritage fairs held across Canada May 13, five of them in Alberta. The others are in Peace River, Calgary, Red Deer, and Fort Macleod.
Following the judging of the regional events, 15 representatives will be selected from each province and territory to take part in the National Heritage Fair in Hull, Que. in July.
