Saskatchewan’s F-Division RCMP dive team joined Alberta’s K-Division special tactical operations team on Sept. 27 to search the Battle River for evidence related to the 2011 shooting death of Chelsea Yellowbird, 23. The search was the follow-up on a recent tip. Battle River is located just west of the Samson town site at Hobbema where Yellowbird was killed in a drive-by shooting in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, 2011. “I believe that there has been an engaged effort by the community members to come forward,” RCMP Const. Pernell Cardinal told QMI News Agency. The RCMP canvassed for witnesses in the community Sept. 27 and handed out information in the hope of generating more tips.
