RISE to push Edmonton for long-term funding commitment for reconciliation

November 23. Two members of RISE will be making a presentation at Edmonton city’s public hearing on the budget today to ask council to consider long term, dedicated funding to move reconciliation forward in the city. The three-year operating budget being considered by council includes $250,000 to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action that are directed at municipalities, but recommends that an additional request of $558,000 annually does not get funded. In rallying interest for the presentation to council, RISE asked in a widely distributed email, “Is piecemeal funding for reconciliation okay with you?” RISE, or Reconciliation in Solidarity Edmonton, is a group of citizens that are working toward educating, reconciling and making a change in Edmonton.
