The discovery of Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette’s remains grinded the search and hope for a safe and healthy return to a halt last night.

During a candle light vigil being held for her safe return the RCMP released that they found what appeared to be the missing 2 year old’s remains.

Premier Rachel Notley also shared her grief in a statement released earlier today, “For Hailey’s family, now deprived of her sunshine, these are the darkest of days. Please know that all Albertans share a part of that darkness with you. Over the past two days, we joined you in your anxiety and worry, and now we share in your loss, and offer our deepest condolences.”

Police have arrested and charged 22 year old Derek James Saretzky with first degree murder and indignity to a body. Saretzky will appear in Lethbridge provincial court on September 23rd.

The rural area of Blairmore and Coleman have had three homicides within the past week.

Blairmore is located approximately 5 hours south of Edmonton along the Crowsnest Pass.
