“Grief is associated with death, while missing is associated with trauma,” said Sylvia Keall, who delivered a session entitled
Ambiguous Loss: Living with Absence today as part of the Edmonton Police Service’s conference on exploring the challenges and finding the solutions on how to interact with and help families, who have loved ones that are murdered or missing. Keall, a program consultant for Families of Missing Persons in Saskatchewan, said the challenge is especially difficult when it involves a person who is missing. Working with those that have missing loved ones is about helping them move forward in their uncertainty and decreasing the stress of living in limbo. Keall said grieving unites all peoples.
