The Calgary Aboriginal Awareness Society has a number of events planned for Native Awareness Week from June 16 to 21. The week wraps up on National Aboriginal Day.

Carole Carpenter, the society's program administrator, said June 21 will be set aside as a day of prayer.

Events for Native Awareness Week include the opening ceremonies at Olympic Plaza on June 16, an Aboriginal performing arts festival at the Uptown Stage from June 16 - 20, a Tipi challenge on June 17 and a Bannock Cook-off on June 20 at the Eau Claire Market.

The Sacred Day of Prayer begins at 9 a.m. in Nose Hill Park. Elders from Calgary and the Treaty 7 area are invited to attend the special day.

For specific times and other events planned in your area, contact the awareness society or the Native Friendship Centre.
