October 7, 2015. Leader Thomas Mulcair is expected to release the NDP’s Indigenous policy this morning at the Assembly of First Nations open forum. Mulcair is the only party leader to accept an invitation from the AFN to attend the day-long forum at the Enoch Cree Nation. Mulcair has committed to calling a national public inquiry into murdered and missing Indigenous women within the first 100 days of forming government. Carolyn Bennett, Liberal Aboriginal affairs critic, Green Party Brenda Sayer, Indigenous candidate in North Island-Powell River, BC, will also be attending. AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde will talk about First Nations federal election priorities.
The crowd packed
the River Cree on Enoch Cree Nation this morning to listen to NDP leader Thomas Mulcair pledge millions of dollars to close the gap between Indigenous people and the rest of Canada. Mulcair said as prime minister he would build a nation-to-nation relationship and lead a special committee that would ensure
Indigneous rights and treaties were upheld.
