Environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has postponed his tour of an oilsands plant in the Fort McMurray area slated for the last weekend in June and his visit to a First Nations community at Fort Chipewyan because of the floods in southern Alberta. Kennedy is a lawyer with the U.S. National Resources Defense Council and president of the Waterkeeper’s Alliance. CP reported that University of Alberta academic and water expert David Schindler said Kennedy didn’t want to criticize the oilsands while people work to cope with the recent flood. Kennedy, who says the oilsands have serious implications for human health and the environment, has not set a new date for his trip.
