A formal complaint was filed in August with the federal Competition Bureau claiming Enbridge is misleading the public with promotional videos about the proposed Northern Gateway tanker route. Lori Waters, a BC woman who has a graduate degree specializing in scientific animation and owns a biomedical communications company, claims Enbridge erased more than 1,000 square kilometres of islands along the proposed Northern Gateway tanker route. Since her claim was made, Enbridge removed the image from one of its videos and made the existing disclaimer more prominent in another. The original video advertisements appeared on Enbridge’s website and YouTube and were among the company’s key promotional pieces for their pipeline project and have been used by several media outlets in stories since late last year. “What Enbridge has done is to distort the maps in its promotional videos to erase numerous islands and twisting passages so that tanker route appears much safer than it is,” said Waters, in a news release. “I thought it was important to set the record straight…. The fact is that the illustration is deceptive and that’s why I’m asking for a formal investigation.”
