The recognition keeps coming for Elder Elsie Yanik, who also received her honourary doctor of laws degree from the University of Alberta earlier this year.

Four of the 14 outstanding Indigenous Canadians announced as recipients of the 2015 Indspire Awards are from Alberta. Earning the Lifetime Achievement award was Métis Elsie Yanik. Métis Ron E. Scott took the Arts award. The Law & Justice award went to Dr. Wilton Littlechild of the Ermineskin Cree Nation. Métis Gabrielle Fayant won the youth award. The Indspire Awards are the highest honour bestowed by Indigenous people on their own achievers, recognizing the success of individuals, who have the discipline, drive, and determination to set high standards and accomplish their goals. The jury for the Indspire Awards is comprised of previous recipients, representing a range of sectors and regions across the country. From hundreds of nominations, the jury selects 10 career achievement award recipients, three youth award recipients (First Nation, Inuit and Métis), and one lifetime achievement recipient.
