A memorial handgame tournament in honor of Philomene Faithful was held in Frog Lake April 22 and 23.

George Canapotatoe, from Onion Lake, Sask., took home the championship prize of $5,000, a jacket and a trophy. Second place went to Cameron Pipe from Kehewin, Alta., who picked up 3,500, a star blanket and a trophy. Third place winner Lorin Faithful from Frog Lake took home $2,000, a drum, a ribbon shirt and a trophy. Fourth place winner Mike Waskahat from Frog Lake won $1,500, a handgame stick set and a trophy.

"There was a lot of people at the tournament. Some came from as far away as Gleichen, Alta. and Edmonton," said Annabelle Faithful, organizer. "This is the first year that we held this memorial for my mother. She was really into hand games. She traveled to a lot of different places with the family to play or compete in hand game tournaments. We lost her on Dec. 14, 1998. She like the game so much that we thought that it would be good idea if we had a memorial hand game tournament in her honor," she said.
