Organizers of the Canadian National Powwow in Edmonton will host an April 15 fundraising banquet and gala that will feature actor/singer Tom Jackson, emcee Dale Auger, Mayor Bill Smith and comedians Don Burnstick and Howie Miller. Proceeds from the gala will offset the costs of the powwow, estimated at $250,000.

The gala will be held at Edmonton's Northlands Agricom with doors opening at 5 p.m. Interested parties can contact Tiffany Badger at (780) 444-6042 or 444-9366.

"We encourage and invite people from all bands and wherever else we can get support from," said chairperson Henry Moosepayo.

The theme for the powwow, said powwow co-ordinator Randy Metchawais, is "Celebrating the Millennium."

The powwow committee has no intention of introducing any gate admission. In addition, there will not be any registration fee for the dancers.
