EDMONTON - Music fans can enjoy an evening of entertainment while helping out at-risk youth, thanks to a fundraising event to be held at the Canadian Native Friendship Centre.
Dream Catcher Tour 2000 will be held at the Friendship Centre, located at 11205 - 101 St., on Friday, April 28. Tom Jackson will host the event, and will be joined on stage by fellow performers Lisa Brokop and Duane Steele.
According to Glenn Laboucan, program director at the centre, the funds raised by the event will be used by the centre for its programs aimed at suicide prevention and intervention among at-risk youth.
The centre currently has a youth peer support worker on staff, working with youth who are within the justice system and are at high risk of suicide.
Money raised through the fundraising concert, Laboucane said, will be used for the centre's current, ongoing youth programs, such as pow wow dancing, Cree dance, Cree lessons, arts and crafts, healing circles, round dances, workshops on suicide intervention and prevention, and the Metis cultural dance.
The doors will open at about 5:30 p.m., with a traditional meal to be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and go until 10 p.m.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $13 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Glenn Laboucan at at (780) 479-1999.
