A new partnership project is working to provide emergency medical training opportunities to eligible non-settlement Metis learners across the province.
The partners, including Canadian Industrial Paramedics (CIP), North American Oil Sands Corporation (NAOSC), Portage College and the Metis Nations of Alberta, have joined together in a co-operative effort to recruit, sponsor and train members of the Aboriginal community to help meet industry demand for emergency medical care providers.
The goal of the project is to increase the number of trained emergency medical personnel in the northeast region and to increase the Aboriginal profile in the booming oil and gas sector.
Qualified students will be fully sponsored to take the four-week Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training to be held this October at Portage College.
Students who successfully complete their training will be guaranteed employment on NAOSC/ CIP oil and gas projects in the Conklin area and beyond.
Students who successfully complete the EMR training will also be eligible to advance their training to the Emergency Medical Technologist (EMT) level.
The upcoming program is open to all non-settlement Metis. Contact the Metis Emloyment Services toll free at 1-877-623-2524 to inquire about funding eligibility.
