Teenager charged in Cold Lake
Police in Cold Lake have charged a teenager after he allegedly stabbed a man in the neck this weekend.
RCMP say the attack happened early Saturday morning in a rural area west of Cold Lake. A 21-year-old man was found with
stab wounds to his neck and wrist. He was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton and is expected to recover.
Not long afterwards, police got a call from a teenager who admitted "that he may have seriously harmed someone," according to RCMP
A 17-year-old boy was arrested. Aggravated
assault charges are now pending.
Blue Green Algae a threat
Toxic blue-green algae is blooming on Alberta lakes.
The advisory released by Alberta Health Services is for Lake Isle, Eagle Lake, and Severn Creek Reservoir.
Please take precautions if you see blue-green algae.
Avoid all contact with blue-green algae blooms.
If contact occurs, wash with tap water as soon as possible.
Do not swim or wade in any areas where blue-green algae are visible.
Do not feed whole fish or fish trimmings from this lake to your pets.
Consider limiting human consumption of whole fish and fish trimmings from this lake, as it is known that fish may store toxins in their liver. People can safely consume fish fillets from this lake.
Alberta premier apologizes
Premier Rachel Notley and others members of parliament expressed their concerns and sympathies to Aboriginal Albertans for the government’s past silence on residential schools as well as calling for a national inquiry into Missing and Murdered Aboriginal women.
As the premier delivered her emotional speech in the provincial legislature, above her in the public gallery, sat dozens of Residential School Survivors.
Notley said her government will develop a new relationship with Aboriginal people.
The NDP have already committed to adopting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples and have long supported a national inquiry into missing aboriginal women.
Death on Alexis Sioux Nation
Mayerthorpe RCMP responded to a call at a residence on the Alexis Sioux Nation at approximately 9:30 pm on June 20. Upon arrival officers located a 39 year old male suffering from stab wounds.
The male was transported by STARS air ambulance to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
An autopsy was conducted today at the Edmonton Medical examiner’s office, it was determined the death is a homicide.
William Alexis, aged 27, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder in relation to this homicide.
Alexis is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 25 at Mayerthorpe Provincial Court.
The victims name is not being released.
