One dead in quad rollover

One man is dead as a result of a quad rollover that occurred just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Beaverlodge RCMP and other emergency responders were called to a quad rollover on Range Road 90 south of Township Road 702. The male driver was pronounced deceased on scene. RCMP believe alcohol may have been a factor in the rollover.

 



Body found on Highway near Cochrane

Cochrane RCMP, and EMS, where called out to a person lying on the side of highway 1, between Highway 40 and Morley road, in the east bound lane. When RCMP and EMS arrived, a male was located who was pronounced deceased at that the scene.  RCMP are currently on scene, and have closed the inside East Bound lane of Highway 1, while they investigate the incident. RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Major Crime Unit are assisting in the investigation to determine what happened. Further information will be released later in the morning, when it is available.

Update: RCMP are no longer on scene and Highway 1 has reopened.  RCMP Major Crime Unit is still investigating


Alberta has a $1 billion surplus

 

Premier Rachel Notley’s NDP government is taking over Alberta’s finances with more than a billion dollars in surplus cash.

The final numbers from the 2014-2015 budget year, which ended March 31, show Alberta recorded a 1 point 1-billion-dollar surplus.

That’s up from the 514 million-dollars projected when the Conservative government tabled its spending document in the spring of 2014.

The 2014-15 budget is the first surplus in six years.



Food recall

 

On July first the Canada Food and Inspection agency announced a recall for no name and Compliments brands frozen uncooked breaded chicken due to a possible Salmonella contamination.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Ford issues recall because of software glitch

Ford is recalling 52180 vehicles in Canada because of a software bug that could leave the car running after the ignition is switched off.

The recall affects the 2015 Focus, C-MAX and Escape models have an issue affecting the body control module and it is recalling 433-thousand vehicles across North America for free dealer servicing.

The company says it is possible for the engine to continue running even after the ignition is switched off and the key is removed, a problem that could cause the car to roll away or be stolen.

Ford says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
