A 14 year old girl on her skateboard was struck down by a motorist in Spruce Grove.
As of late Thursday morning the victim has been receiving
surgery to reassemble her shattered leg. It appears that she suffered multiple protruding compound fractures.
Near the broken skateboard police found at the scene a
matte-black, right side mirror from a late 90′s Dodge Neon.

A major real estate developer in Grande Prairie is in hot water for its alleged connection to one of the biggest drug busts in the city’s history.
It was late last year when investigators seized $250,000
worth of drugs from a home owned by Mark Phillips. Further investigation determined Phillips bought the house with drug money through Manjit Nagra, who represented Studio Homes.
Phillips and Nagra face a number money laundering and fraud related offences. Studio Homes is charged with money laundering under the proceeds of crime and terrorist financing act.
If found guilty, Studio Homes directors could be fined up to
$500,000 and five years in jail
Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. Had a 405 million dollar net loss in the second quarter but the company believes it would have been profitable had Alberta not raised its corporate tax rate to 12 percent on July first.
When compared with the same period last year Canadian
Natural had a 1.07 billion dollar net earnings and 1.15 billion dollars of adjusted net earnings.
Canadian Natural’s revenue fell 36 per cent or nearly $2 billion compared with the second quarter of 2014, when global oil and gas prices were much higher.
It says total revenue the second quarter was 3.42 billion
dollars, down from 5.37 billion dollars a year earlier.
Former Alberta Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Cameron Alexis has won the NDP nomination battle for the riding of Peace River – Westlock in Alberta.
Alexis is also the former chief of Alexis Nakota Sioux First
Nation.
Alexis said he was approached by more than one party to
consider running, but chose the NDP because of its track record on Aboriginal
issues including its stance against Bill C-51 and improving on childcare
services.
Alexis is married with two sons, a daughter and 12
grandchildren. He served two years as AFN regional chief, six years as chief of
his home community and before that served a 23 year career as an RCMP officer.
Ultimately, he encourages Indigenous people to get to the
polls and make their voices heard this fall.
A little girl dubbed "the Christmas angel" is out of the hospital, and her family may be breathing easier since bail has been denied to the man accused of the attack on the child.
Crown prosecutor Jason Neustaeter confirmed the little girl has been released from hospital.
He said the child faces a long road to recovery and will
likely have to return to hospital for both physical and psychological therapy.
On Dec. 20, 2014, the unconscious six-year-old was found
severely beaten and lying naked in the snow on the Paul Band First Nation, about 70 kilometres west of Edmonton.
