Cochrane RCMP are investigating a crash scene on Highway 8, west of the City of Calgary, where a woman has died.
Emergency crews were called to the scene for reports of a head-on crash between a semi-truck and a car.
According to police, the tanker truck was empty and was eastbound into the city when the westbound car crossed the center line in the road.
Police say the westbound car crossed the center line on Highway 8 this morning into the path of an oncoming semi. The driver, a woman, was dead at the scene.
RCMP collision analysts’ initial assessments indicate that the woman may have intentionally caused the crash.
Highway 8 was closed for a long period of time during the morning, but it has since reopened.
Getting elderly patients home sooner, stronger and with fewer complications after emergency general surgery is the goal of an ‘elder-friendly’ emergency surgical unit now being created at University of Alberta Hospital.
It’s all part of a new clinical research study called EASE — Elder-Friendly Approaches to the Surgical Environment — a collaboration between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, led by Dr. Rachel Khadaroo (Kah-dar-oo), a surgeon-scientist, critical care specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Surgery.
The University of Alberta Hospital clinical trial is being funded by 750-thousand dollars through The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Health System, a joint venture between Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions and Alberta Health Services that aims to improve health outcomes for patients across Alberta.
Earlier seed funding came from the M.S.I. Foundation and the University Hospital Foundation. Researchers working on this project are also affiliated with the Seniors’ Health Strategic Clinical Network.
