Albertans take on labor programs

First Nations and Metis communities will design and deliver labor programs and services to Aboriginal people in Alberta after signing contribution agreements with the federal government. Human Resources Development Canada will provide approximately $23 million annually for three years to the Alberta Grand Council of Treaty 8 First Nations, the Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations, the Treaty 7 Economic Development Corporation, the Metis Settlements General Council and the Metis Nation of Alberta. These authorities will administer programs in human resource development, employment services, skills development and income support. "As Alberta's leaders of Aboriginal peoples, you were the first in Canada to sign labor market agreements," said Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Secretary of State for Training and Youth, "which demonstrates your commitment to address the labor market needs of your people."
