AFN commends "We Stand Together" campaign to educate young Canadians

Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo offered his recognition on the official kickoff of the Third Annual We Stand Together Campaign in Support of Aboriginal Education. This initiative brought forward by Free The Children along with the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative and will see students, educators and parents across the country learn about the challenges, achievements and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Human Rights Watch alleges Aboriginal girls and women were abused by police

An international human rights organization is calling on the federal government to launch a national inquiry into claims from Aboriginal women of abuse and threats by RCMP officers in northern British Columbia.

Human Rights Watch, has brought worldwide attention to victims of torture and abuse in places like Syria and Burma, says the eyes of the world should also be on northern B.C.

Senator Patrick Brazeau kicked out of Conservative caucus

Senator Patrick Brazeau, through his lawyer, entered a plea of not guilty on the charges he is facing as a result of alleged incidents that occurred on Feb. 7, 2013.

Brazeau remains suspended (with pay) from the Senate until the conclusion of court proceedings on the charges.

In a statement to the media, Brazeau's lawyer stated that Patrick Brazeau looks forward to clearing his name and putting this behind him and then returning to the Senate to represent the people of Canada.

MN-S disappointed by federal government decision to appeal Daniels v. Canada

In a news release the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan stated it is disappointed with the decision by the Government of Canada to appeal the Harry Daniels et al v. Canada case.

"It is no surprise that the federal governmet has appealed the Daniels decision," said Robert Doucette, President of Métis Nation – Saskatchewan.
