As one of your white middle-class settler subscribers, I would like to tell you how much I appreciate your coverage of Saskatchewan news. I don't know how you handle letters to the editor, but I am so incensed about the recent release of Steven Kummerfield and the mainstream news coverage, I must put pen to paper. Perhaps you could use it as at least one view from the settler population.

The Stardale Women's Group Inc. Foundation, located in Melfort, dedicated a healing garden to the city on Nov. 10.

On hand at the ceremony were Sophie Keetnatch, Stardale's Elder, as well as Rev. Dan Young of the Covenant Church. Young represented one of the partners in the project, the Melfort Ministorial Association.

The Remembrance Day service in North Battleford paid full honor to First Nation and Metis veterans.

Sponsored by the Gold Eagle Casino and Battleford Tribal Council of Chiefs, the early morning pipe ceremony, service and honor roll took place at Battleford Tribal Council Indian Child and Family Services.

Several hundred people braved the cold for the laying of the wreaths and unveiling of the new Native Veterans Monument, and attended the honor banquet held in the Kehiw restaurant at the Gold Eagle Casino.

During the noon hour on Dec. 1, the Prince Albert Grand Council opened its Winter Games office and souvenir store in Gateway Mall in downtown Prince Albert. Amid the prayers, drum songs, and speeches was the promise of, not only showcasing the young athletes and the city of Prince Albert, but also the young people who will be managing the office.

"A number of students and people from P.A. Urban Services, Youth Internship Program will be involved in operating the Games office from now until April," said assistant games manager, Mel Mercredi.

Perhaps that sounds like a cliche, but when a store owner in the ever-competitive world of retail sales decides to do things above and beyond the call of duty, the description seems apt.
