Child Find is with you if the unthinkable happens

Page 6

Losing a child in a busy shopping centre is harrowing. With adrenaline rushing, parents rush through the crowds looking for their toddler who has wandered off. Most times, the little guy or girl is spotted in a store or staring at a toy or candy through a window - most times. But what if your child simply disappears.

Statistics from Child Find Alberta are frightening for parents and guardians of children, but at the same time, the organization's recovery rate is very promising.

The Kikino Metis Settlement in northeastern Alberta have unveiled two new monuments in its community which pay tribute to Elders and veterans .

The two monuments, one to be placed at the Kikino cemetery and the other to go in front of the settlement's administration office, were purchased from Aspen Memorials in Edmonton.

Jim White, with the memorial company, who is also a Kikino member, said the monuments have been a long time in coming, but are a ideal tribute to the work done by the Elders of the settlement.

The dedication of William Erasmus, 73, is one of the reasons Canadians live in freedom. Erasmus has served in two military conflicts as a representative of his homeland.

"What I believe in, I will fight for," said Erasmus.

The veteran was the driving force behind the Kikino Metis Settlement's two new monuments to celebrate the Kikino members who fought for their country and the settlement members who have passed away.

The two monuments were unveiled on Nov. 11 at Kikino.

"It's time that we gave them the recognition," he said.
