Albertans completing masters and doctorate level studies have been awarded provincially-funded scholarships totaling $500,000 in recognition of their exceptional academic achievement. These students are studying subjects ranging from music to medical genetics at universities in the province and around the world. The Ralph Steinhauer Award of Distinction recognizes the academic achievement of 15 Canadian students studying in Alberta with a $15,000 scholarship for those at the masters level and a $20,000 scholarship at the doctoral level. Steinhauer was a former lieutenant governor of Alberta, chief and band councillor of Saddle Lake First Nation and a recipient of the Order of Canada. The fund also provided scholarships to five graduate-level Albertans studying arts in the fields of music, dance, literary arts or visual arts at the masters level. Another 15 Albertans received the James Lougheed Award of Distinction recognizing academic excellence.
