Court proceedings against a local RCMP officer accused of breaking the neck of Rodney Pelletier of Eden Valley Reserve will likely move into Foothills Hospital so Pelletier can testify. Crown prosecutor Steven Koval made the unusual request to have Pelletier, paralyzed since his Jan. 16 arrest, testify at the preliminary inquiry of Native Special Const. Willy Big Smoke. The RCMP officer, who has been suspended from the force pending the outcome of his trial, faces a maximum 10 years in prison if convicted. The inquiry resumes here Oct. 11.
