Embattled and suspended Senator patrick Brazeau cannot avoid the limelight, it would seem. On April 1, 2013 long after the accepted noon time limit for pulling April Fool's pranks the Senator tweeted:
Sen Patrick Brazeau
@TheBrazman
10:47 PM - 01 Apr 13
I will step down from my position!
Sen Patrick Brazeau
@TheBrazman
11:45 PM - 01 Apr 13
Official annoucement tomorrow at 10am.
Well it turns out that, much to the Twitterverse's disappointment, Senator Brazeau was only "foolin'" and had no plans to resign his Senate seat. He ended the day with a tweet of “Happy April’s Fools day” after seeing online reactions. The disappointment soon turned to anger and frustration.
Yahoo Canada columnist Andy Radia called the stunt “immature,” to which Brazeau responded:
Sen Patrick Brazeau
@TheBrazman
02 Apr 13
@andyradia no, I played the media
Later on April 2nd - perhaps in response to the backlash there was an apology:
Sen Patrick Brazeau
@TheBrazman
10:51 am 02 Apr 13
Apologies for my tasteless joke. It was meant as just that....a joke but I do realize is was tasteless.
The Senator recently entered a plea of "not guilty" to charges of assault and sexual assault at his home on Feb. 7, 2013.
