Steps have been made towards reaching a self-government agreement with

the Inuvialuit and Gwich'in in the Northwest Territories. Negotiators

have initialed a process agreement which outlines the issues to be the

discussed, the process and the timing for the next stage in self

-government negotiations. The process agreement will guide the

negotiations to the Agreement in Principle stage. "We anticipate the

negotiations will be open and honest and address the interests of all

parties, taking into account a community focus," said Bob Simpson, chief

negotiator for the Inuvialuit and Gwich'in.
