Two names added to RCMP Honour Roll

The RCMP held its National Memorial Service on Sept. 11 at the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division, to honour members, special constables and auxiliary constables who lost their lives in response to an operational policing duty in which there was the element of life-threatening risk. The names of Special Constable Andrew Ooyoumut and Constable Michael Bernard Potvin were inscribed on the Cenotaph, the Honour Roll and the Memorial Wall Plaques, bringing the total number of fallen members to 228 since the creation of the North-West Mounted Police in 1873. Ooyoumut served from June 1, 1946 to July 21, 1954 and drowned in the Kikatavyuk River, Nunavut, while on special duty. Potvin, who served from May 4, 2009 to July 30, 2010, drowned when the RCMP boat he was in capsized on the Stewart River in Mayo, Yukon.
