A product of good business planning, partnerships and a lot of hard work, the Gold Eagle Lodge has become a reality for the Battlefords Tribal Council (BTC).

The grand opening of the new hotel was held Nov. 18.

Celebrations began with an open house beginning at 11 a.m. followed by tours throughout the afternoon. Several guest speakers were on hand for the celebrations. Battlefords MLA Len Taylor congratulated BTC on the completion of the facility and for having the courage to invest in people and in the future.

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Lawrence Joseph and Vice-chief Morley Watson presented a painting as a gift to BTC in congratulations for the significant occasion.

"I think that this is the way of the future, working with different people. This facility translates to better life on reserve," Joseph said.

Chief Mike Kahpeaysewat of the Moosomin First Nation spoke about what the new hotel means to First Nations people.

"This means great jobs and employment opportunities for our young people," he said.

Owned by the Battlefords Tribal Council and operated under a management agreement with Airline Hotels and Resorts Ltd., the lodge is the newest hotel in the Battlefords.

The new hotel features112 beautifully appointed guest rooms, including oversized family rooms, extended stay suites, deluxe jacuzzi suites, conference suites and a two-level penthouse suite, as well as wheelchair accessible rooms. Hotel amenities include in-room high speed Internet access, a large indoor saltwater pool, three hot tubs, an exercise facility, a sauna and steam room, a business centre, a continental breakfast room and a small meeting room.

The new hotel is located adjacent to the Gold Eagle Casino on Highway 16.
