The Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC) has big plans for the future and has launched a fundraising campaign designed to turn those plans into a reality.
On May 23, the SNTC announced the start of the campaign, entitled Oski-Pimacihowin-A New Life, Setting the stage in the lives of youth, performing artists and communities. Through the campaign, the Saskatoon-based company hopes to raise $5.3 million by the end of 2007.
The money will be used to renovate the SNTC's Black Box Theatre, as well as to built a bistro and arts club that will provide the company with a means of generating revenue while providing employment and training opportunities to Aboriginal youth.
The company also hopes to use the money raised through the campaign to develop a performing arts training centre, allowing the SNTC to expand the arts programs it already offers and develop new ones, with a goal of partnering with the National Theatre School of Canada to provide nationally-recognized performing arts training in Saskatoon.
Developing an Aboriginal career management and counselling agency that will provide a network to link artists, agents, producers, writers and directors is also included in the company's plans.
