Summer Games competition a close one

The team from Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) did it again, though just barely.

The MLTC team took top spot in the 2001 Saskatchewan First Nations Summer Games, held in La Ronge Aug. 12 to 16, but it took a recount to make it official.

When it was all over, the final standings had MLTC in top spot with 505.5 points, while the team from the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) narrowly missed top spot and-trailing by only half a point -had to settle for second.

Meadow Lake has been a dominant force in both the summer and winter versions of the games for the past several years and, although the PAGC team has routinely given them a run for their money, the competition has never been this close before.

The team from the Saskatoon Tribal Council took third place with 385 points, while the Agency Chiefs Tribal Council finished fourth with 369 points.

Fifth place went to he File Hills/Qu'Appelle Tribal Council with 366.5 points, sixth place went to the Battlefords Tribal Council with 361 points, and the Yorkton Tribal Council finished seventh with 308.5 points.

The Onion Lake Tribal Council took eighth place with 280 points, while ninth place went to the Touchwood Agency Tribal Council with 242.5 points, and the South East Treaty 4 Tribal Council earned tenth spot with their 145 points.
