People from across the province involved in educating First Nations and Metis children will get a chance to share their experiences during this year's Awasis conference, being held at the Saskatoon Inn from April 28 to 30.
The conference is organized each year by Awasis, a special subject council of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation that works to improve the education offered to First Nations and Metis people.
The conference features three days of presentations by people who will share their knowledge in the areas of wellness, spirituality, culture and education, the four strands of the conference program.
This year's conference will feature keynote addresses by Verna St. Denis, associate professor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Education, who will talk about the challenges and benefits of developing a race analysis in Aboriginal Education, and Dr. Winona Wheeler, Dean of the First Nations University of Canada's Saskatoon campus, who will talk about using Indigenous knowledge in the classroom.
For more information about the Awasis conference, call 343-5999 or visit the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation Web site at www.stf.sk.ca.
