Actor and musician Tom Jackson has been recognized for his contributions to the province of Saskatchewan, receiving the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award.

Jackson was one of three recipients of this year's award, given to non-residents of Saskatchewan who contribute to the province's economy and society.

Jackson, who is originally from Saskatchewan but who now lives in Calgary, was recognized for his charity work. Jackson organizes the annual Huron Carol benefit concerts in Regina, Saskatoon and Toronto, which over the past decade have raised more than $1 million for the Canadian Association of Food Banks. He has also focused his efforts on the problem of suicide in Aboriginal communities through his Dreamcatcher summer tours. Jackson has also been involved with Kinsmen Telemiracle.
