Thirteen exceptional educators had their work recognized on March 28, as the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation's Educators of Distinction Awards were handed out.

One of the recipients was the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company (SNTC), which was honored for the many programs it offers to Aboriginal youth.

Also receiving awards were Yves Bousquet, principal of Princess Alexandra community school; Richard Dube, music teacher at Pleasant Hill and Westmount community schools; Donna Lee Dumont, who teaches fine arts at Nutana Collegiate; John Taras, who teaches English at Mount Royal Collegiate; Patti Sebestyen, a teacher in the alternative high school program within Saskatoon Catholic Schools; and Rhonda Whacker, Tracy Painchaud and Cindy Johnson, who make up the Caswell community school pre-kindergarten teaching team.

Other award recipients included Kim Archibald and Judy Kiss, the teaching team in the Grade 11 outdoor school program at Marion Graham Collegiate; adult ESL teacher Elfrieda Ens from Global Gathering Place; St. Anne school teacher Linda Muzyka; Montgomery school teacher associate Elaine Penner; Caswell community school's head caretaker Larry Philipenko; and the Kinsmen Hockey League, recognized for a program which enhances hockey skills and personal development, and which has involved over 1,700 students in 10 community schools.

This is the seventh year these awards have been handed out by the Saskatoon Preschool Foundation, which works to advocate for and support access to quality preschool programs for all children in Saskatoon.
