It will truly be a time to celebrate at the 2006 First Nations Cultural Celebration and Powwow being held in Saskatoon Oct. 27 to 29, as the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, one of the event's hosts, uses the powwow to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
The powwow, which will take place at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, will also be a celebration of the Year of the First Nations Child.
More than $80,000 in prizes are up for grabs during the powwow, with competition in all age categories.
A singing contest is scheduled as part of the festivities, as is a princess pageant. Host drums for the celebration will include the Whitefish Jrs. from Big River and High Noon from Hobbema, Alta. Renowned actor Gordon Tootoosis is scheduled to be one of the announcers for the event.
Grand entries will take place on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m., on Oct. 28 at noon and 7 p.m. and on Oct. 29 at noon.
