Soon after the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations(FSIN) chief elections in November, Chief Guy Lonechild announced the new portfolio assignments of the
Executive Chiefs.
"I believe we have a team that will make significant strides towards implementing Treaty and Inherent Rights that will ultimately lead to a brighter future for First Nations," stated Chief Lonechild.
"The Executive will focus on providing a voice for these groups ushering in a new era of leadership and unity... We want to improve the lives of our First Nation people by working together as a team."
The three vice chiefs were given a written mandate letter outlining key priorities for each portfolio holder. As well, Chief Lonechild directed executive members to take a results-based performance measured approach towards their portfolio responsibilities, with each one having to report on the impact of their work on women, children, youth, seniors, and urban First Nations.
Chief Lonechild will oversee the portfolios
of Gaming, the First Nations University of Canada, and the Treaty Rights Protection Fund.
Portfolios overseen by Vice Chief Morley Watson include Finance and Resources, and Economic, Social and Urban Development.
Vice Chief Delbert Wapass oversees Justice and Community Safety and Education, and
Human Resources Development. Meanwhile, Vice Chief Dutch Lerat oversees Health and Wellness and Veterans/Disabilities and Vice Chief Lyle Whitefish oversees the Lands and Resources and Duty to Consult and Accommodate/Residential Schools
Healing and Compensation portfolios.
On top of these portfolio changes, Chief
Lonechild announced a consultative process to reorganize the FSIN and to develop an action plan on First Nations women, particularly Missing Women, the First Nations HIV/AIDS pandemic and Violence Against Women.
