Do you have a favorite book written in the past year by a Saskatchewan writer? If so, you only have until the end of July to enter it as a nominee for this year's Saskatchewan Book Awards.

Nominations for books written between Oct. 1, 2000 and July 31, 2001 must be submitted by July 31. A second deadline of Sept. 30 has been set for books published between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30.

Aboriginal writers were well represented among last year's winners, claiming three of the 12 awards given out.

Patricia Monture-Angus received last year's Book of the Year Award for her book "Journeying Forward", while James (Sakej)Youngblood Henderson won the Scholarly Writing Award with co-authors Marjorie Benson and Isobel Findlay for their book "Aboriginal Tenure in the Constitution of Canada."

Another book by Henderson also garnered an award for publisher Purich Publishing. The book, "Protecting Indigenous Knowledge and Heritage", co-written with Marie Battiste, received the First Peoples Publishing Award.
