Janice Morin has been appointed as an assistant chef de mission to Team Saskatchewan for the 2005 Canada Games, becoming the first First Nations person to hold the position.

Morin, who was chef de mission for the Saskatchewan First Nation Winter Games held ealier this year, works in the Sport, Culture and Recreation department of the Prince Albert Grand Council.

Morin was an athlete in the first Saskatchewan First Nation Games held in 1974 and has continued her involvement in sport as a participant, coach and administrator. She has been a coach at the North American Indigenous Games and has participated in the Arctic Winter Games.

"It is a great honour, a tremendous privilege and a fabulous opportunity to become part of the Canada Games sports community, and I'm excited about being a part of Team Saskatchewan. Our energy and excitement in sports and culture will shine as we welcome all of Canada to our home," Morin said.

The 2005 Canada Games will be held Aug. 6 to 20 in Regina.
