Dear Editor:
Thank you for the story covering the educational initiatives at the College of Commerce and SIFC. There are some errors in the story that I would like clarified in the next issue of Saskatchewan Sage.
There are approximately 100 students registered in the two-year administration program--Certificate in Indigenous Business Management sponsored by SIFC and Commerce. Successful students can continue onto the commerce program and complete their commerce degree at the College of Commerce.
The MBA program has been in existence at the University of Saskatchewan since 1972. SIFC and Commerce are creating an "Area of Concentration" or "Specialized Area of Study" in Aboriginal business development as part of the regular MBA program.
The MBA program is a two-year program for students with an undergraduate degree and a 70% average in their final two years of study. Students who have completed a commerce degree can earn their MBA designation in one year by registering directly into year two of the MBA program.
Lastly, corporate sponsorship has been instrumental to our developments. The Circle of Founders consists of Bank of Montreal, Proctor and Gamble, Farm Credit Corporation and IMC Global. We have also received support from the Business Development Bank of Canada. The Scotiabank has sponsored a new management position: "Director of Aboriginal Business Programs--The Scotiabank Directorship.
