Dr. Ralph Nilson has been appointed as director of the Indigenous Peoples Health Research Centre, one of four research centres across the country funded through the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples Health (IAPH).
Nilson, former dean of the faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina, takes over from Diana Greyeyes, who was named acting executive director when the centre was formed earlier this year.
The Indigenous Peoples Health Research Centre (IPHRC) is part of the ACADRE (Aboriginal Capacity and Developmental Research Environments) network being created by the IAPH, designed to increase the involvement of Aboriginal people in health research, both by supporting Aboriginal health researchers, and by ensuring Aboriginal people are actively involved in the research being done in their communities.
The IPHRC is a joint partnership between the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC), the University of Regina, and the University of Saskatchewan, and works closely with health boards and Aboriginal health organizations across the province.
The Saskatchewan-based ACADRE centre is focused on research in the areas of chronic diseases, nutrition and lifestyle, Indigenous healing, health delivery and control, and prevention and environmental health.
